Lovely vintage French industrial bulkhead light manufactured by Holophane and dating from around the 1950s. These heavy-duty, weatherproof fixtures were engineered for demanding public and industrial environments, most famously used to illuminate the tunnels, platforms, and maintenance walkways of the Paris Metro system. The frame is made from heavy cast iron which is in very good original condition. The thick glass is also in very good condition. 'Haut' is French for 'top' or 'up' and was used as a marker for technicians to ensure they were mounted the right way up. The Holophane inscription is stamped along the bottom curve. One of two identical lights currently available. The light has been rewired and PAT tested and is in full working order.
